What moves the price
- Class limits. Part-time plans (8 or 12 classes a month, or 3 a week) cost $20 to $40 less than unlimited at the gyms that offer both.
- Payment method. CrossFit Antietam charges $5 less on ACH than card; CrossFit Helo charges $10 more for cash or check.
- Commitment. CrossFit Zion lists $155 month to month and $135 on a yearly plan.
- Discounts. Wasatch CrossFit lists 15% off for veterans, first responders and full-time students; CrossFit Helo has student and public service rates; Salty Hive lists family, military and first responder discounts.
- Personal training and nutrition. Coaching beyond the group class is extra (Wasatch lists performance coaching from $259 a month; Helo lists $50 an hour one on one).
Is it worth it compared with a regular gym?
You are paying for a coach at every class, a written program and a fixed time slot that keeps you showing up. If you only want equipment access, a big-box gym is cheaper. If you need someone to teach lifts and pace a plan, compare the monthly price with what 8 to 12 personal training sessions would cost.
