Short answer
Pick the box you can reach at the time you will actually train, with coaches who watch and correct every athlete, and a structured intro for beginners. Then take a free class and judge the coaching, not the equipment.
Before you visit
- Distance at your training time. A gym 10 minutes away at 5:30 AM can be 30 minutes away at 5:30 PM on I-15. Use the gym finder for straight-line distance, then check your real drive.
- Class times. Look for at least two classes in your window on the days you plan to train.
- Beginner path. A free intro, a beginner course or several personal sessions before group class.
- Prices on the site. Gyms that list prices save you a sales call. Compare with the Utah price table.
- Affiliation. Every gym on this site is listed on the CrossFit affiliate map; a gym using the CrossFit name should be.
- Programs you care about. Teens, competition, HYROX, open gym, Olympic lifting or nutrition coaching.
During the free class
- Coach attention. Did the coach correct your movement more than once?
- Briefing. Was the workout explained with scaling options for every level?
- Class size. Could the coach see everyone during the workout?
- Clean and organized. Equipment put away, floors clean, rigs in good repair.
- Members. Did anyone introduce themselves? You will see these people several times a week.
- Cancellation terms. Ask how much notice you need to cancel and whether you can freeze a membership.
